Pastoral Council


The St. Luke Pastoral Council, reflecting the wisdom of the community, serves as a consultor to the pastor and pastoral staff to ensure that the parish mission is carried out effectively, efficiently, and responsibly.





The Pastoral Council meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Jansen Center.

The Pastoral Council members are elected by the members of the Parish. Three members are elected each year for a three year term. If you would like more information, please contact St. Luke Parish at 426-1733.

Call to Order: Jonathan Bishop (Chair) called the meeting to order a 7:00 p.m. Opening Prayer was offered by All.

St. Luke Mission Statement read by Jonathan:  St. Luke Catholic Parish, a part of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and served by pastoral leadership, is a community of Christians who strive to live and spread the word of God to others. We are called to be a praying, caring, teaching, and serving sign of God’s presence.

Past Minutes:  Minutes from the September 13, 2016 meeting were e-mailed to Pastoral Council members for approval. Minor corrections were made.The minutes have been posted on the St. Luke Parish website (

School Report (Leslie Vondrell): 
  • Six new teachers and two new cafeteria/playground supervisors have been hired for the new school year
  • Gym lobby restrooms renovations completed
  • Security cameras installed in and outside the school
  • Computer room roof leaked and needed to be completely replaced
  • The school has 3 Chrome Book carts, 75 new Chrome Books and 4 wireless printers for the carts. Because of the computer room roof repair the students and teachers used the Chrome Books and everything seemed to go smoothly.
  • Using a 2-year program called Decision Point for Confirmation which can be accessed through an app and used with I-pads.
  • The Walk-a-thon raised over $11,000
  • Enrollment is down this year. Fr. Terry has formed a committee to determine what can be done to increase enrollment (Statistic are attached to hard copy of the minutes.)
Update on Projects (Bruce): 
  • Computer room roof:  The Finance Committee and Parish Council previously approved $9,300 to cover replace the top layer of the roof. Once work started, found insulation and steel decking needed to be replaced Additional money was needed to complete the repairs.
  • Parking lot lights:  replace bulbs with LED packets
  • Security cameras: 33 installed in and outside school building, can pick up other parts of building on campus
  • Steel shelter for playground area should be installed in November. New mulch and trash cans have been added

Follow up on picnic and news release (Council):  Mark, with Eleanor’s help, wrote an article about St. Luke’s debt reduction/payoff to be submitted to multiple news agencies. Contact emails addresses were included.

Volunteer awards (Council):  There are two awards left to be handed out. Eleanor took one to give to the volunteer at the Boosters next meeting. Everyone seemed to like the write up stating what the volunteer did to be nominated. Council agreed to continue doing this for next year’s awards.

Signature of budget for Archdiocese (Council):  Council members signed the budget report which will be mailed to the Archdiocese.

Pastor Report (Fr. Terry):
  • St. Luke’s Financial Report for Fiscal Year July 2015-June 2016 was presented to the Council. Suggestions for minor changes were made. This will be included in the Beam once it is approved by the Finance Committee.
  • 2 part-time cafeteria workers are still needed

Adjournment:The closing prayer was offered by Joanna and the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. The next Pastoral Council meeting will be on Tuesday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m. in Jansen Center East. Erin will lead the opening and closing prayers.
