Mission

The St. Luke Pastoral Council, reflecting the wisdom of the community, serves as a consultor to the pastor and pastoral staff to ensure that the parish mission is carried out effectively, efficiently, and responsibly.

Meetings

The Pastoral Council meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Jansen Center.

Membership

The Pastoral Council members are elected by the members of the Parish. Three members are elected each year for a three year term. If you would like more information, please contact St. Luke Parish at 426-1733.

Saint Luke Pastoral Council Minutes

Call to Order:  Eleanorcalled the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Opening Prayer was offered by Eleanor.

St. Luke Mission Statement read by Zach:  St. Luke Catholic Parish, a part of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and served by pastoral leadership, is a community of Christians who strive to live and spread the word of God to others. We are called to be a praying, caring, teaching, and serving sign of God’s presence.

Past Minutes:  Minutes from the September 12, 2017 meeting were e-mailed to Pastoral Council members for approval. Minor corrections were made.The minutes have been posted on the St. Luke Parish website (www.saintlukeparish.org).

Parish Volunteer Awards—Review and Selection (Council):  A total of 22 nominations were received including one couple and two families. The Council approved 17 to receive the Volunteer Awards. Paula will provide a short intro with the list of names that will be announced at each Mass and awards presented if present on Saturday and Sunday, September 16th and 17th. Paula will also provide a bulletin insert with a short write-up about each of the recipients. Council members volunteered to be present at Masses to do the announcement.

Events--FYI:
  • Parish Picnic, September 17th
  • Fully Alive Retreat, September 23rd, 9 :00 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Parish Center with Beth Madsen
  • Blue Mass, September 24th, Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains, Cincinnati, 10:45 a.m.
  • Great Italian Feast, February 11, 2108

End of Year Fiscal Report (Fr. Terry): The report will be presented at the October meeting. Some summer projects were taken out because they have not been completed.

Summer Projects Update (Bruce):

  • The school’s 4 restrooms have been upgraded with new counters, sinks, floor and fixtures
  • The school’s computer lab was downsized and the rest of the room was renovated to be the Spanish classroom
  • Fixed cracked areas in the parking lots
  • Planning on installing guard rail between St. Luke property and Primrose
  • Refinished gym floor and bleachers

Hurricane Relief (Fr. Terry):  Almost $14,000 was collected to be sent to a parish in the Houston area.

\Pastor Report (Fr. Terry):

  • The school committee group is pulling all the data together from the surveys and will produce a written report
  • School enrollment for the ‘17-18 school year to-date is 40 students below the budgeted enrollment number.
  • The school is looking for a new art teacher
  • Waiting for the state of Ohio to receive bids for a new school trailer
  • The Boosters Committee has approved the use of a POD for storage for bazaar items
  • There was another incident of a restroom being vandalized with trash. The police viewed the security camera footage and the individuals were identified and caught.
  • Laurie, St. Luke’s bookkeeper, received a scam phone call claiming to be DP&L and requesting payment on late amount or power would be turned off. No payment made and DP&L was called to let them know this was happening
  • 2 heating/ventilator units on top of gym need to be replaced. A bid of $5,500 was proposed and approved by the Council

Adjournment:The closing prayer was offered by Eleanor and the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. The next Pastoral Council meeting will be on Tuesday, October 10th at 7:00 p.m. in Jansen Center East. Mark will lead the opening and closing prayers for the October meeting.
