Pastoral Council


The St. Luke Pastoral Council, reflecting the wisdom of the community, serves as a consultor to the pastor and pastoral staff to ensure that the parish mission is carried out effectively, efficiently, and responsibly.





The Pastoral Council meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Jansen Center.

The Pastoral Council members are elected by the members of the Parish. Three members are elected each year for a three year term. If you would like more information, please contact St. Luke Parish at 426-1733.

Call to Order:  Jonathancalled the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Opening Prayer was offered by Jonathan.

St. Luke Mission Statement read by Erin  St. Luke Catholic Parish, a part of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and served by pastoral leadership, is a community of Christians who strive to live and spread the word of God to others. We are called to be a praying, caring, teaching, and serving sign of God’s presence.

Past Minutes:Minutes from the April 11, 2017 meeting were e-mailed to Pastoral Council members for approval. Minor corrections were made.The minutes have been posted on the St. Luke Parish website (

Introductions and welcome to new members (Council):  This is the last meeting of the 2016-2017 Pastoral Council Committee. Outgoing Council members are Jonathan Bishop, Joanna Garcia and Erin Lunday. The voting for new Council members was held the weekend of April 22nd and 23rd. The three newly elected members are Paula Hutchison, Brian Lunday and Christopher Reuter. They will start their 3-year term at the June 13th meeting. Chantelle Nartker has stepped down and Jeff Brown has agreed to fill this seat on the Council for the next year.

Parish Directory Status (Tom Feller):  Tom presented to the Council a proposal for a new St. Luke parish directory working with Lifetouch. The proposal included information about the company, the format, timetable, additional options, the members of the committee and staffing help needed. Information will be included for the parish in upcoming bulletins.

Budget--Final (Fr. Terry):  A seconddraft of the proposed budget was distributed to Council with projected expenditures from staff members and the school. Several questions were asked and answered. The budget will now be given to the Finance Committee. A motion was made to accept the budget, all Council members agreed and the motion passed.

Status of Audit Plan of Action (Fr. Terry):  Auditors from the Archdiocese were at the Parish Office for 4 days in March, 2016. A report was received noting some suggestions for changes. Bruce responded to the auditor’s report with several accounting procedure changes noted. Audits are usually held every 6 years or when a pastor has changed.

Summer Projects Review (Bruce):  A list of ‘Summer Projects being Studied’ for the parish and school was given to Council. For the parish the list included outdoor lighting, St. Dominic sound system upgrade, south border proper line upgrade, parking lots repair and campus-wide sidewalk and concrete repair and replacement. For the school the list included school technology upgrade, playground safety repair, gym safety repair and upgrade and the cafeteria/ kitchen warming unit replacement. The Council approved the school technology upgrade and the outdoor lighting upgrades.

Gifting the Parish Flyer Review (Fr. Terry):  A draft of a flyer about different ways to gift to the parish and school was given to the Council. Once completed it will be included on the St. Luke website and yearly in the bulletin.

August Retreat Date and Topic Discussion (Council):  August 12th was agreed upon for the retreat date. Several topics were suggested: Catholics Come Home, the Domestic Church and information about the Alpha program.

School Study Group (Fr. Terry, Zach and Bruce):  The Committee continues to meet and a revised/updated school survey was emailed to school families and parishioners. A link was listed on the school website and included in the BEAM. Jane Dockery is collecting data and Zach Heaton is helping to analyze that data.

Election: Selection of a new Council Chair and Vice-Chair (Council):  Erin nominated Eleanor Haupt for the incoming Pastoral Council Chair. The Council approved the nomination and Eleanor accepted. Eleanor nominated Fred Gabriele for the incoming Vice-Chair. The Council approved the nomination and Fred accepted.

Pastor Report (Fr. Terry):

  • There has been some vandalism on the school grounds
  • A current copy of the Pastoral Council constitution was handed out
  • Thank you to the retiring members of the Council

Adjournment:The closing prayer was offered by Jonathan and the meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m. The next Pastoral Council meeting will be on Tuesday, June 13th at 7:00 p.m. in Jansen Center East. Paul will lead the opening and closing prayers.
